PFG is the leading manufacturer of float glass in Southern Africa, as well as laminated glass, mirrors, and sealant products. The company produces 260 000 tons of float glass products per annum, supplying into both domestic and international building and automotive industries.

 

Main job purpose

To support and ensure the optimal performance of the operations by closely monitoring and resolving engineering related problems with adopting technically sound practices and procedures with engineering personnel.

 

Main Objective

  • Carry out mechanical (Refractory), inspections in designated areas, do preventative & scheduled maintenance in accordance with acceptable safety standards and carry out equipment break down repairs to ensure optimal performance of the process and to meet the production targets.
  • Ensure that inspections on furnace /tin baths & equipment are carried out in order to prevent unnecessary downtime.
  • Identify, verify and analyse reasons for downtime through root cause analysis and implementation of corrective measures to repair the fault in order to ensure timeous resumption of production.
  • Report any adverse plant conditions to the maintenance Team Leader by recording all work done on the job card for future maintenance planning and liaise with the production department to ensure that there are no unnecessary interruptions to the production process.
  • Attain World Class Manufacturing by following procedures, risk assessments, and task observations.
  • Assist with the training and coaching of the apprentices to reduce the risk of accidents and non-compliance.

Assist in refractory repair projects.

 

Critical job requirements

Qualifications 

  • N3 Civil Engineering/Masonry/Bricklaying       
  • Trade Certificate - Mason/Bricklayer

Knowledge

  • Technical Knowledge
  • Refractory Installation
  • Working knowledge of Refractories & Sealing Materials
  • Understanding OHSACT
  • Knowledge of Water/Air cooling systems
  • Knowledge of measuring equipments
  • Knowledge of pneumatics and pumps
  • Knowledge of shut down maintenance
  • Knowledge of gas & diesel firing systems

Experience

 

  • 3 Years post Apprenticeship experience as a Mason/Bricklayer in a manufacturing environment
