VACANCY: Fitter - Shatterprufe Struandale

A vacancy exists for a Fitter at Shatterprufe Struandale, Port Elizabeth. This is an Artisan position reporting to the Engineering Co-ordinator in the Engineering Department.


Main job purpose

To support the manufacturing site during continuous shift operations on all mechanical related issues, with the primary aim to maintain machine availability and improve up-time.


Main Objective

Responsible for attending to breakdown maintenance by responding timeously to breakdown requests to ensure production runs optimally and efficiently to meet targets. 
Identify, verify and analyse reasons for downtime through root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions to repair the fault in order to ensure timeous resumption of production. 
Ensure that inspections on running machinery and equipment are carried out in order to prevent unnecessary downtime. 
Ensure adherence to the maintenance schedule by carrying out preventative and scheduled maintenance so that the risk of unplanned downtime is minimised.  
Ensure adherence to all safety rules and regulations by all personnel and contractors on site to ensure a safe working environment and adherence to standards. 
Participate in problem solving workshops and process improvement discussions to support MDW. 
Responsible for participating effectively in MDW teams to support overall team and business objectives.  
Ensure effective communication of relevant information to all stakeholders to support decision making for the business. 


Critical job requirements

Qualification(s)    
•    Trade Tested Fitter / Fitter and Turner    

 

Knowledge    
•    Understanding of OHSACT

•    Knowledge of shut down maintenance
•    Good understanding of factory utility layouts (i.e. electrical and water reticulation, compressed air systems, and process water plant).

•    Knowledge of condition monitoring (i.e. electrical and water reticulation, compressed air systems, and process water plant)
•    Welding, cutting and grinding experience

•    Pneumatics, pumps, transmission systems and general mechanics
•    Bearings and lubrication    

 

Skills    
•    Self driven and motivated

•    Able to work under pressure
•    Interpersonal skills (be able to to work in a team)

•    Problem solving techniques
•    Analytical skills    

 

Experience        
•    Working in a production environment

•    2 years post apprenticeship experience as a Fitter

•    Experience working on heavy industrial / automated machines
•    3 years experience within a large manufacturing environment
