A vacancy for a Specialist Buyer has arisen at Corporate in Port Elizabeth. This is a Junior Management position reporting to the Materials Manager in the Purchasing Department.
Main job purpose
To take overall accountability for selecting and negotiating with approved vendors and placing purchase orders in response to product, materials, supply requirements, stock movement and control thereof as established by various departments within the organisation at optimal costs to meet business and customer requirements to efficiently and timeously support production and overall purchasing strategy .
Main Objective
To support internal clients by adding value to bottom line (including cost and quality) through strategic sourcing, procurement and supplying direct materials on an ongoing basis to support production in order for to meet their deadlines in line with set targets and customer expectations.
To select and negotiate with approved vendors and placing purchase orders in response to supply requirements to drive cost efficiency.
To implement buying strategies by working with cross-functional teams to develop sourcing and vendor management strategy in order to improve quality and cost efficiency.
To assess and report on the specific category and contract spend, by conducting regular total cost analyses to track performance results in a continuous cycle to support the business in driving decision making around cost-reduction opportunities.
To assist in developing, reviewing and implementing purchasing and contract management policies and procedures in line with business requirements.
To regularly liaise with suppliers, secures and review bids with supervisor / manager before placing orders in line with quality, price, shelf life and profitability objectives.
To ensure effective communication of relevant information to all stakeholders to support decision making for the business.
To regularly review IBP system (customer releases) for future planned production and manage the availability of stock for future production requirements to minimise unforeseen problems.
To co-ordinate and verify the procurement and invoicing process to ensure that suppliers and contractors are paid correctly and timeously.
To liaise and build effective working relationships with key stakeholders including suppliers and contractors in order to improve services, quality and cost efficiency.
To manage the off-site warehouse by directing activities and monitoring performance to ensure efficient service delivery to manufacturing sites.
