Main job purpose

  • The Project Automation Manager oversees major technical projects, ensuring they meet scope and customer expectations.  With a deep understanding of Shatterprufe's equipment, the successful incumbent will identify, support and execute projects to enhance Plant capabilities, driving profitability and sustainability.

 

Main Objective

  • To effectively manage all automation projects in line with project scope requirements and customer expectations.
  • To effectively communicate with all relevant project stakeholders to ensure scope, progress and hand-over of the project is adequately understood by all stakeholders.
  • To provide technical automation assistance to all Sites in order to assist with improvements in relation to breakdowns, cycle times, etc. so as to drive necessary efficiencies.   
  • To provide technical consultation services to Sites to deliver effective solutions for complex automation and technical problems.
  • To effectively manage, organise and coordinate machine, equipment and service suppliers in areas of responsibility in order to support project related outcomes.
  • Responsible for compiling / coordinating electronic drawings and the archiving thereof, in the relevant Site technical drive, as specified in the handover document.
  • To ensure software backups are completed and provided to Site Engineering on completion of projects in order to ensure integrity of data.
  • To compile and provide training manuals to Production to facilitate roll-out of training at Site in support of new installation / project.
  • To ensure effective communication of relevant information to all stakeholders to support effective decision making for the business.

 

Critical job requirements

  • Grade 12     
  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering
  • 8 years project automation experience   
  • Coordinate diverse teams of suppliers, site engineers, etc.         

         

Knowledge

  • CAD Based Electrical Design and Documentation      
  • AC/DC Servo drive configuration with PLC type Motion Control
  • Robot Configuration especially Fanuc    
  • Microsoft Programming Language (Visual Basic or similar)
  • Good mechanical and technical knowledge      
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental legal requirements and systems
  • Specialist Knowledge in Automation      
  • Industrial Protocol Integration (Controlnet, Devicenet, ProfinetNet, Modbus TCP, EthernetIP, Ioloink)
  • Automotive glass manufacturing equipment     
  • Low to medium voltage circuit design
  • Safety Circuit design and implementation         
  • Contractor and Project management experience
  • SCADA design and development (Wonderware and factoryTalkView)     
  • Panelview programming and integration
  • PLC programming (Rockwell and Siemens)     
  • Industrial Network Configuration (Stratix Switch / VLAN Management)

 

Skills

  • Ability to communicate across various communication networks      
  • PLC with particular focus on Allen Bradley
  • SCADA Development        
  • Data base experience preferably Microsoft SQL
  • Proven track record showing successful project completion
