PFG is the leading manufacturer of float glass in Southern Africa, as well as laminated glass,  and mirrors. The company produces 260 000 tons of float glass products per annum, supplying into both domestic and international building and automotive industries.

Main job purpose

Operate the Paint Section at Mirror plant to ensure good application of paint on the mirrors and the quality of the mirror leaving the preheat oven, the short oven, long oven and other paint applications are within specifications, while maintaining high Safety, Environmental and Housekeeping standards at the paint section and the plant in general. Efficiently use the raw materials (glass chemicals and paint), with no or minimal wastage; similarly for plant equipment and other resources.
 

 

 

Main Objective

  • Operate the paint section by ensuring that paint is correctly prepared and supplied to the Production Line while maintaining operational standards and specifications.
  • Control the elements (temperatures) in the ovens for different substances as per QAP and WIs to ensure that the curing is achieved.
  • Control paint application by ensuring that viscosity and wet mass of the paint are within limits as per QAP and WIs and correct deviations timeously
  • Ensure that the wet mass of the base coat and top coat are in line with the QAP and meets the required paint thickness on the glass.
  • Wear appropriate PPE at all times to ensure personal safety and others; operate machines according to the work instructions, risk assessment and one point lesson.
  • Follow the MSDS to ensure use and disposal of material in the workplace are done in the correct and responsible manner to minimise risks and pollution of the environment.
  • Report unsafe acts and activities in the workplace to ensure corrective measures are taken timeously.
  • Ensure that you are trained on current SHERQ documents (WI, SWP, SOP, etc.) and do not work or conduct any job in any area that you have not been trained for to avoid process deviations and injuries.
